Introduction to Bulk Solids Handling: A Comprehensive Course on Solid Flow in Hoppers and Pneumatic Conveying of Bulk Solids

This comprehensive course covers various topics related to bulk solids, pairing classroom instruction with practical exercises. Course content will help an employee better understand bulk solids handling, storage, and flow behavior to enhance their comfort level and ability to problem solve when working with bulk solids. The course will focus on common bulk solids flow problems during storage and conveying and solutions to these problems. Students will participate in a full-scale test laboratory practical session of bulk solids handling, focusing on dilute and dense phase pneumatic conveying. Please review the course schedule for a full list of topics covered.

By attending this course, participants will:

  • Design a bin, chute, and feeder
  • Design a pneumatic conveying system
  • Understand the problems related to bulk solids handling
  • Understand the trouble shooting procedures related to bulk solids handling

Designed for new and existing employees who are responsible for processing and handling of bulk solids, this course will benefit those not familiar with bulk solids handling or employees looking to refresh their knowledge of bulk solids. This course is not intended for senior employees who already have a basic knowledge of bulk solids handling. Employees, managers, and supervisors and research and development scientists and engineers in the following industries are encouraged to attend:

  • Plastic
  • Mineral
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Chemical
  • Grain and Feed
  • Food

CEUs: 2.5 hours

Continuing education units (CEUs) are awarded for full completion of the professional development course. Participants must be present for the entire schedule, or make arrangements prior to course start date with Professional Education and Outreach, in order to be eligible to be awarded the CEUs.

Location: Bulk Solids Innovation Center, Salina, Kansas

Cost: Early bird rate of $1,500 per attendee on or before May 14, 2019

$1,800 per attendee on or after May 15, 2019

Please see Discounts and Registration Fee Scholarship for information on discounted rates. Registration fee includes course instruction, materials, and supplies, morning refreshments daily, and lunch and afternoon refreshments Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

A discounted rate is offered for companies sending multiple attendees. Discounts are tied to number of attendees as follows:

A discounted registration rate of $750 is offered to current graduate and post doctoral students.
