Online Fundamental Course on Bulk Solids Handling

This is a introductory course designed for individuals who are responsible for bulk solids handling of materials. Covering various topics related to powders and bulk solids handling, individuals who enroll in this course will improve their ability to design, maintain, and improve bulk solids handling systems, understand advantages and disadvantages of the various types of systems, evaluate vendor options, and optimize the performance of existing systems.

By completing this course, participants will understand:

  • Flow problems and their related properties
  • Design principles of a bin/hopper, chute, and feeder
  • Pneumatic conveying system basic design and trouble shooting procedures
  • Mechanical conveying concepts and design procedures

This course is designed for engineers, operator, managers, technicians, and similar individuals who are responsible for designing, improving, or troubleshooting powders and bulk solids handling systems. The course is appropriate for new employees who are not familiar with bulk solids flow in hoppers, bins and chutes as well as those who want to increase their knowledge and experience. Employees, managers, and supervisors and research and development scientists and engineers in the following industries are encouraged to attend:

  • Plastic
  • Mineral
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Chemical
  • Grain and Feed
  • Food

Registrants will participate in weekly lectures and assignments. Each week will take approximately 3 hours to review lectures and complete assignments. Registrants will receive access information to the online learning system upon registration.

CEUs: 1.8 CEUs

Continuing education units (CEUs) are awarded for full completion of the professional development course. Participants must be present for the entire schedule, or make arrangements prior to course start date with Professional Education and Outreach, in order to be eligible to be awarded the CEUs.

A discounted rate is offered for companies sending multiple attendees. Discounts are tied to number of attendees as follows:

A discounted registration rate of $375 is offered to current graduate and post doctoral students.
