Applications of Discrete Element Method (DEM) in Bulk Solids Handling

This course focuses on the applications of discrete element method (DEM) simulations in bulk solids handling using EDEM software. Over two days, participants will cover important topics related to the design of bins, hoppers, transfer chute systems, and other calculations for practical bulk solids applications. Participants will receive immersive DEM knowledge to inform design, modification, and optimization of unit operations based on their industry needs, while providing proof of concept based on their DEM simulations. Participants will work through the actual design and critical thinking process for developing systems and operations related to their industrial area. This includes developing models, verifying and modifying models, and correlating lab experiments to validate the models. 

Individuals that handle design of operations, modeling, and simulations related to bulk solids should attend. Course instruction will help participants minimize the number of iterations and associated costs in the system design and operation by verifying it through DEM.  Anyone responsible for designing and improving bulk solids handling operations, such as engineers, operators, managers, technicians and R&D scientists and engineers will benefit. Employees in the following industries are encouraged to attend:

  • Pharmaceutical

  • Food

By attending the course, participants will be able to:

  • Proficiently utilize EDEM software for DEM simulations
  • Design, modify, and optimize a system based on their application
  • Validate models through experimentation

A discounted registration rate of $750 is offered to current graduate and post doctoral students.
