About the Bulk Solids Innovation Center
The Kansas State University Bulk Solids Innovation Center provides innovative solutions in bulk solids storage, flow, conveying, and handling. Bulk solids make up more than 80 percent of items transported around the world, yet formal education and research concerning these materials is not completely understood. How solid materials behave in transport and processing requires more examination. The Center provides a wide range of value-added solutions and services to enhance efficiency and productivity to variety of industries - food, chemicals, minerals, pharmaceuticals, and plastics. From research, education, training, access to technology, and bench to full-scale testing of dry bulk solids, this unique Center identifies and solves real-world industrial problems.
The Center is the only one of its kind in North America. It is a collaborative partnership of government, for-profit, and non-profit entities including Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus; the City of Salina, Kansas; the Salina Chamber of Commerce; Coperion K-Tron; Salina Vortex Corporation; and several additional contributors. K-State is the key tenant in the Center, while two local companies, Coperion K-Tron, and Vortex Valves, supplement the facility by serving as anchor occupants. Our partnership brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise - in giving access to technology with a deeper understanding of customer needs and expectations.
